An introduction: Who, what, why?
My name’s Ani, and as you probably know if you’ve made it this far, I’m the owner of Porch Sparrow Editorial, where I do fiction editing with a cozy twist.
My cozy twist today is a cup of earl grey with some lavender buds added to the loose leaf, but more generally, the “cozy” part of my tagline has nothing to do with genre, and everything to do with what it’s like to work with me as your editor.
Sending your book off for editing can be intimidating, or nerve-wracking, or depressing, or all three. When you work with me, I want you to feel so assured in how much I believe in you, your book, and your writing—and in my ability to elevate, polish, and honor it—that you can comfortably find yourself a cup of tea or coffee or cocoa and feel the warm fuzzies of knowing that however it goes, you won’t feel belittled or less than or lacking at the end of it. Of course, I can’t guarantee a feeling. But I can guarantee my availability, my active collaboration, and my use of good consent practices when I work on your manuscript.
A few more quick guarantees:
First, no AI, ever. I will not work with AI-generated manuscripts, nor will I ever use AI to replace my own editing ability. I have worked very hard (and paid a not-insignificant amount of money!) to polish my skills as much as possible, and I am here to put them to use!
Second, engagement. I will only take on projects I can feel genuinely excited about—which means, if I’m taking on your project, I will be 100% involved and committed for every part of the journey.
Third, timeliness. I will always deliver on or ahead of schedule, so you never have to be worried about pushed-back deadlines.
I’ll talk about my qualifications and experience in a different post, but for now, it’s lovely to meet you, and I’d love to answer any questions you may have!
