Services

Developmental editing services available upon request

Line Edit

Does your manuscript need a heavy copy edit or even a rewrite? This edit will evaluate and adapt the prose on a word-by-word basis to achieve your specified style preference. It will also look at grammar, structure, and flow like a general copy edit would. This edit comprises a single pass. A copy edit should be completed after the fact to ensure all errors are removed.

Copy Edit

Does your manuscript need a sentence-by-sentence edit that looks at grammar, structure, and flow? This is typically the edit that occurs before proofreading. This edit comprises two passes to ensure accuracy, with author review included between the two passes.

Proofread

Does your manuscript need a final check for grammar, spelling errors, formatting, and more? This is typically the last level of intervention before sending a manuscript off for publication. This edit comprises a single pass, and as such, the manuscript will be evaluated prior to the service to ensure it is ready for proofreading.

Manuscript Evaluation

Does your manuscript need a second eye before sending it out on submission? Are you looking to get published but don’t know where to start? Do you need a beta or an alpha reader? This service comprises a single pass concluded with a report or Zoom call.

Note: While services may be combined, no more than two services may be provided at a time in any given editing package. This is a failsafe to make sure you have as many eyes on your project as possible, which is preferred when developing or editing a book.

Pricing & Deliverables

Pricing varies project by project. I base my estimates on the Editorial Freelancers Association’s rate estimates to give you a fair, stable pricing model. These prices are not guaranteed; pricing may change according to the needs of the manuscript or service. Deliverables also vary by service and author preference. Below are some examples of pricing ranges and deliverable options.

  • For a polished 100k-word manuscript (as evaluated during the sample edit), the total cost of a two-pass copy edit would run between $2,160–$2,600 depending on the turnaround time.

Bundled edits (e.g., copy edit + proofread, developmental edit + line edit) may be eligible for a small discount.

Deliverables for a two-pass copy edit include your manuscript returned with track changes and comments and the style sheet I used to edit the manuscript. Up to two minor rounds of revision will be included to resolve any brief issues you may encounter.

Any additional services (e.g., conference calls, further revisions) will be charged at an hourly rate of $50/hour.

  • A more involved or otherwise complex line edit (nearly every sentence requiring significant revision) would run between $2,050–$2,460 based on turnaround time.

Deliverables for a complex line edit include your manuscript returned with track changes and comments, a brief editorial letter, and the style sheet I used to edit the manuscript. Up to two minor rounds of revision will be included to resolve any brief issues you may encounter.

PLEASE NOTE: The error rate for a completed line edit will be more substantial than that of a copy edit. You will need to hire a copy editor to complete the manuscript.

Any additional services (e.g., conference calls, further revisions) will be charged at an hourly rate of $50/hour.

  • Beta reads and manuscript evaluations are charged at an hourly rate of $30/hour, with an upper limit of ten billable hours. A flat rate of $50 will be charged in addition for rush projects (e.g., needs to be completed within a week).

Deliverables for a beta read include your manuscript with in-line comments and a beta reading report of anywhere from five to fifteen pages.

Deliverables for a manuscript evaluation include a report of anywhere from five to fifteen pages and a Zoom call to discuss.
