Services

Proofreading services available upon request.

Developmental Edit

Is your manuscript in initial stages of development or are you looking for support with the structural elements of your manuscript—plot, character development, setting, etc.? Do your self-edits feel stuck? Are you looking to shake things up so you can understand the internal mechanics of your story better? This service comprises a read through and a single pass utilizing in-line comments and occasional Track Changes along with an editorial report of 10–15 pages summarizing and expounding upon the in-line comments.

Line Edit

Does your manuscript need a heavy copy edit or even a guided rewrite? This edit will evaluate and adapt the prose on a word-by-word basis to achieve your vision for the manuscript. This edit will also look at grammar, structure, and flow. This service comprises a read through and two passes with in-line comments and Track Changes, with author review included between the two passes. Be aware that this service does not function as a proofread!

Copy Edit

Does your manuscript need a sentence-by-sentence edit that looks at grammar, structure, and flow? This is typically the edit that occurs before proofreading. This service comprises a read through and two passes utilizing in-line comments and Track Changes, with author review included between the two passes. This service may be bundled with a proofread if so desired to conclude the editing of your manuscript.

Manuscript Evaluation/Beta Read

Does your manuscript need a second eye before sending it out on submission? Are you looking to get published but don’t know where to start? Are you looking for a beta reader with an editor’s eye? These services comprise a read through and then a single evaluatory pass of your manuscript (using in-line comments) concluded with a report and/or Zoom call.

Note: While services may be combined, no more than two services may be provided at a time in any given editing package. This is a failsafe to make sure you have as many eyes on your project as possible, which is preferred when developing or editing a book.

Pricing & Deliverables

Pricing varies project by project. I base my estimates on the Editorial Freelancers Association’s rate estimates to give you a fair, stable pricing model. These prices are not guaranteed; pricing may change according to the needs of the manuscript or service. Deliverables also vary by service and author preference. Below are some examples of pricing ranges and deliverable options.

  • Developmental Edit: $.033/word

This service is completed ONLY on a case-by-case basis at the moment. For an 80,000 word manuscript, this service would come out to $2,640 + applicable fees.

This involves a read-through and a single pass.

  • Line Edit: $.027/word

For example, a line edit of an 80,000 word manuscript would come out to $2,160 + applicable fees.

    Copy Edit: $.021/word

For example, a copy edit of an 80,000 word manuscript would come out to $1,680 + applicable fees.

Both services involve a read-through and two editing passes.

  • $.030/word

This bundle involves an initial read-through and three passes: a two-pass copy edit and a single-pass proofread. In between the second and third pass, I will return the manuscript to you to give you the chance to answer questions and adjust the edit as needed.

  • Manuscript Eval: $65/hr + applicable fees.

This is a quick developmental overview of your book without the in-line comments that a developmental edit would provide.

A manuscript evaluation of an 80,000 word novel may take between 6–10 hours (depending on the readiness of the manuscript), so a higher end estimate would be, resultantly, $650.

Beta Read: $40/hr + applicable fees

This involves a single pass read-through of your book with occasional in-line comments and a 5–10 page report delivered upon completion detailing reactions to plot, character development, setting, etc.
